Anat Kamm receives 54 months in prison for stealing 2000 secret military files whilst serving in the IDF.
Which she then passed on to a journalist without knowing what use would be made of the sensitive material.
In passing sentence the Judge honoured the plea bargain which had been made between the sides.
Compare this to the circumstance of the Jonathan Pollard trial and sentencing. There, the judge overruled the plea bargain agreement and imposed a life sentence. And it seems that life MEANS life. Pollard has already served 25 years and all efforts to obtain parole or clemency have been refused by a succession of presidents.
Only last month Vice -President Joe Biden stated that Pollard would be released “over my dead body” (unquote).
The Americans really take their secrecy issues seriously.
They certainly place a higher value on them than Israel.
